EMDR THERAPY

I was taught this therapy as part of my Clinical Hypnotherapy Diploma ten years ago. It is a powerful way of getting to the bottom of issues that otherwise would not be able to come to the surface on a conscious level. The benefit of having the skills to use a variety of therapies does give more choice to mix and match and to use more than one therapy in any one session.

What are the key benefits of
EMDR

EMDR often resolves emotional disturbances and trauma where some therapies may fail.

EMDR is effective for most anxiety based disorders.

EMDR is a client led therapy, just as Clinical Hypnotherapy is and always remains within the control of the client.

EMDR is capable of rapid results

EMDR is particularly suitable for the treatment of Trauma (resulting from accidents, disasters and emotional distress).

Bereavement

Addiction and substance abuse

Eating disorders

Depression

Phobias

Abuse (verbal, physical and sexual)

Self Esteem issues

Alcohol abuse

Binge drinking

Smoking Cessation

Confidence

Anxiety

Weight Issues

What does EMDR stand for?

EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING

Eye Movement: It appears that the beneficial effects are facilitated by an alternating stimulation of the right and left hemispheres of the brain. Eye movements accomplish this.

Desensitisation: refers to the removal of the emotional disturbance associated with a traumatic memory.

Reprocessing: refers to the replacement of the unhealthy, negative benefits associated with traumatic memories, with more healthy, positive beliefs.
